Case Study: Accounting Integration

The Challenge

The client needed to add critical integrations to their ecosystem on an ongoing basis to retain existing customers and attract new merchants. Doing this in-house is time-consuming, expensive, and takes the focus of the team away from their core roadmap. The company was looking for a way to develop and deploy integrations at scale and with speed, with a target of 10 new cloud integrations in 12 months. The client also needed to provide their customers with a very smooth user experience and not go the route of external connectors or third party apps. The client was also concerned about data privacy and was looking for a solution that ensured no customer data ever left their infrastructure.

With these challenges in mind, the client engaged LINK to build two accounting integrations in the first phase.

The Solution

LINK built an enterprise-level integration to connect customers to their QuickBooks Online(QBO) and QuickBooks Desktop (QBD)accounting software. LINK created the integration backend and a fully white-labeled UI using iFrames that embedded within the payment systems’ dashboard and ensured that the end-user progresses seamlessly through the complete setup workflow without having to ever leave their main screen. This microservice-based functionality was deployed within the client’s own infrastructure to ensure that all data always remains within their core system, never leaving their firewall. In addition, all user actions and major events are being captured and tracked in Mixpanel to enable more granular analytics.

The Result

All settled transactions and line items are mapped to QuickBooks to ensure timely and proper bookkeeping. Taxes, Fees, Discounts, Promos, Refunds, and Returns are appropriately handled by the integration. A soft launch on May 1st, 2020 went successfully and the full launch on May 15th, 2020 is expected to attract at least 100 new signups and account setups in the first 30 days.

Phase Two of the project is expected to kick off in June with 4 integrations targeting Ecommerce (Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce) and Food Ordering platforms (UberEats, GrubHub).
